The Basilian Fathers first came to the United States in 1907, when Fr. Volodymyr Stekh, OSBM, arrived with Bishop Soter Ortynsky, OSBM, to serve Ukrainian immigrants. Their work grew steadily, and on July 13, 1948, the Province of the Dormition of the Mother of God was officially established.

Today, this Province includes seven monasteries, where the Basilian Fathers carry out wide-ranging pastoral and missionary work within the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in America.
