New Book on Saint Josaphat Published by Vilnius University Press

A new book titled “The Making and Remembering of Saint Josaphat Kuntsevych, 17th–20th Century” has been published by Vilnius University Press. The volume focuses on the life and legacy of Saint Josaphat Kuntsevych and was prepared as part of the Ukrainian Catholic University’s “Kyiv Christianity” program in collaboration with the Faculty of History at Vilnius University.
The book includes 22 scholarly studies that were first presented at international conferences in 2023, marking the 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Josaphat. These conferences took place in Vilnius (October 13–14) and in Rome at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (November 13–14).
The contributors explore the historical context of Saint Josaphat’s life as well as his theological, cultural, and spiritual legacy. The studies also address and challenge common stereotypes, while offering a deeper understanding of his ministry and his sacrificial witness to Christ.
In addition, the volume examines how devotion to Saint Josaphat developed in the early modern period and how his image has taken on a transnational significance in the modern world.
